Meeting with set builder

In the meeting on Thursday with our set builder, our group presented our music video and discussed what props we would need him to provide.

Props

We went through each set with the builder:

1.  Dressing room - as we would be able to provide much of this set ourselves and buy the rest, we discussed what our flooring and walls/background we would need.  We decided that we should have cream/white flooring and walls for this set as we would colour it ourselves in: pinks, fairy lights, clothes and flowers.  I thought it would be a good idea if we used the same flooring and walls for this set and our photo shoots, which would make it a lot easier for our organisation and our group agreed with this. Although we believed that if we could put all the sets up together this would be really successful as we could have a wide shot of all the sets together at the beginning/end of our music video.  Furthermore, it would also make things a lot easier if we kept the flooring and walls quite simple otherwise it would be quite stressful to sort out.

2.  First photo shoot -  We would be able to provide our own balloons, flowers etc. ourselves for this so we only asked for the flooring and walls to be provided, which would be white/cream.

3. Cafe - we discussed the idea  that our background would be a window to give a feel that it was inside (shown in our poster) and the set builder agreed.  We decided that it would be good to have curtains also so you could only see the top of the window to make things more easier.  It was also discussed that a projector could be used/the green screen instead of us making it ourselves and therefore, this will be looked into.

4.  Second photo shoot - When presenting our idea about the psychedelic background, we decided that we would either paint it (if we used a simple background) or we could project it.  It was also decided that there should be a third photo shoot as this wouldn't be as interesting to show for as long as the first one.  Therefore, I decided that we would have a beach photo shoot that also would be 60's style.

5.  Bar - In the meeting, it was agreed that our idea to choose a bistro set was much better than our previous idea as it would have been virtually impossible to find our original tables and chairs.  However, we asked for stalls and this was suggested that we would visit the Theatre department about this.  The set builder agreed that he would find a bar for us and the chequered flooring that we wanted for the cafe and the bar would be available.

6.  The new photo shoot - I thought it would be a good idea if we used a dressing screen on the beach where Emma could throw her clothes over (similar to the Dior Advert) and therefore I have begun researching for this and the other props/costume we will need.

7.  During our meeting, our group also decided that we might change our psychedelic photo shoot and instead use our silhouette idea in a photo shoot of its own, instead of trying to put it in our dressing room.  The set builder suggested that we use a projector and essentially we will be filming from behind this projector (which is the backdrop of the models photo shoot) and therefore will only see her movements - we will be seeing from 'behind the scenes' instead of inside the photo shoot.  I will research this further to see if this could work with our music video and our group will decide soon if this is the right decision.

Overall, I believe our meeting was a success and that we planned things out rather well.  However, when we were asked what the model would be doing in a cafe/bar, our group were quite unsure, which I believe was quite unprofessional and a mistake that we should have considered beforehand.  We had organised a screen testing with all our cast for Wednesday and therefore, we must consider choreography beforehand so we can try it out on camera to see what works and what doesn't.  Our teacher suggested that we watch called God Created Women (1956), which stars Brigitte Bardot that should help us with this.
